I have been given an account on the mvm web interface, but suspect ined command line on the mvm device it's self ? could some kind person point to the doc that states what to do. I want to scan for missing patches on windows 7.
Thanks in advance.
If you log into the main MVM interface and look at the bottom right of the main dashboard, you will see a hotlink with a version (ie Version 7.5). Click that version link and a popup happens. In that popup, it tells you the versions of various parts of MVM.
In this example box, my FSUpdates table is at 2016-03-18, Other updates share that same date (FASL Version, Policy Settings, etc). So, this MVM was last updated mid March.
I see you are an energy company employee. Did you receive this from your controls vendor? Perhaps you might be able to get some assistance from their support on usage.
Thanks I can see the table and it dates from when the box was first set up. Looks like there isn't a scheduled update from ePO of rules. I'm guessing I'd see this in the data sources section ?
The 2 methods I am familiar with are either via FSUpdate or offline/airgap methods.
If the MVM box has a route to the internet, FSUpdate might be employed. You can check the status of that by logging into Windows desktop of the MVM server and checking under the Foundstone folder in the start menu. There should be a link to "update McAfee Vulnerability Manager that can be launched.
If there is no internet connection, you will need to get these updates via other means. I strongly suggest you contact the person(s) who installed MVM for you to understand the approved update method.
