Difference between "Patches Only" and "Patches and Hotfixes"

Jump to solution

I'm using Product Version 6.8, I can see duplicate checks for few patches (MS10-041, MS10-044, MS10-045 etc) in the paths below

Windows > Non-Intrusive > Windows Vulnerabilities > Patches Only

Windows > Non-Intrusive > Windows Vulnerabilities > Patches and Hotfixes.

Wondering whether I should check a particular patch in both the paths to activate a patch for scan or one is okay. Appreciate if anyone could differentiate it, Thanks !

Hi.

Look into KB67592 (https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB67592). They explain that 'Patches Only' category is only for MS bulletins.

In my case, I rely only in 'Patches and Hotfixes' and have 'Patches Only' disabled, mainly because I try to avoid duplicates at all times, because they render the foundscore unreliable... forcing you to tweak around with asset reports, and dwelling into problems that really kill anyone mood.

Note: if you choose to disable 'patches only' category, and IF you have the 'run new checks' selected on some categories, dont forget to uncheck the categories you don't want to use, because if a FSL update happens, your scans will run scripts that you don't want (assuming the FSL update includes scripts for those categories).
