real-time scanning

After starting my computer I got the message from the McAfee Total Protection software that the real-time scanning was off. After activitating the software and turning real-time scanning on, I started a full scan. After several seconds I got "An unexpected problem occurred during your scan." I have read at least half a dozen different fixes for this problem, one of which involves setting the DCOM Server Process Launcher to automatic. What do I do?

Go here: http://home.mcafee.com/root/MyAccount.aspx  and log in and then download the software.

Moved provisionally to VirusScan for better attention.

Assuming this is the consumer version and not Total Protection Service (SaaS) try running the McAfee Virtual Techncian to see if it will repair the installation:  http://mvt.mcafee.com/

Open McAfee - > Go to About - > Get me the Versions

I can open McAfee Total Protection by All Programs->McAfee->McAfee Total Protection but there is no tab labeled "About", so I can't tell you the version number.

Either in Navigation > About or in the new interface at the bottom right.

(Reply to Ex-Brit) I can no longer open McAfee Total Protection. I just ran McAfee Virtual Technician and got the following results:

                    Fixed: Registry entry problem(s) detected (120)

                    Problem: Missing files (16)

                    Fixed: Service(s) not running (1)

                    Problem: Service(s) expected (1)

                    Problem: Missing/corrupt COM components (1)

                          AntiSpam 13.1.154

                    Problem: Service(s) not running (1)

That's all I can tell you for now.

I have removed McAfee Total Protection software using Windows Add/Remove and followed that using MCPR.exe. Now, how do I reinstall the software.?  I don't have a CD for this program. I downloaded it from McAfee after paying for it using VISA.

After resolving an issue with my account password, I was finally able to download the McAfee Total Protection setup software and reinstall it. Thanks for the help.
