error when trying to start scan

I try to start my scan and it gives an error on not being able to start on demand. Microsoft one care will not start and I can not get another scan to run either. I am pretty sure I am infected with something but I cannot not even scan to find out what. Any ideas?

Re: error when trying to start scan

If the computer is infected then it will prevent you from initiating a scan or installing any AV applicaiotn. You can try the below free tools to scan your compuer.

  1. Download the Stinger tool from the link below:
  2. Double-click Stinger and select Preferences.
  3. Enable the Report Applications option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Scan Now and allow the scan to complete.

During the scan, you may receive a clean error during on certain .cab files. Ignore the error and allow the scan to complete. The files will be removed when the system is restarted.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Run Stinger again using the steps above.
