Why does a rootkit scan take such a long time?

Jump to solution

Using McAfee Internet Security Suite I ran a full scan yesterday. After about half-an-hour the scan showed 99% complete, and that it was now scanning: Rootkit. 4-hours later it still showed as scanning Rootkit. At this point I clicked cancel several times, and each time nothing happened. I then re-booted my computer. I last ran a full scan on October the 3rd and it took 2-hours 21-mins to complete. Most of that time it was showing as 99% complete and scanning Rootkit. Why is Rootkit scan takes suck an incredibly long time now, and why doesn't the cancel button work? My computer uses Windows 8.1 64bit.

It actually is "Scanning For Rootkits" not that there actually is one.

This is a known issue in Versions (12.8) and earlier. Please try the following workaround : VirusScan stops scanning at 98% or 99% complete

Could you please inform us of your McAfee Version/Build.

Also, if I may ask. Does this occur while running both a "Quick Scan"/"Full Scan" ?

I felt I best clarify my last question. Does this occur while you run a Quick Scan (By itself) And when individually performing a Full Scan?
