Virus scan not using much CPU.

Hi, I was just wondering if there is a way I could speed up the virus scans. Every time I scan it uses at most 5% of my cpu and takes 5 to 6 hours.  This is a fairly new computer (Christmas present) which has had McAfee on it from the beginning.

System Specs: Intel i7 870, Radeon HD5770, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Hi Jammingjt,

When you run the scan, is it one that you have ran, or a scheduled scan?

Hi jammingjt,  Open Mcafee, then go to the top right of program.Click navigation. Then in the middle click on schedueled scan. Then uncheck scan using minimal resources (on the bottom).See if this helps.

Yes it was a scan I ran manually but I changed the Sceduled Scan Settings anyway. I'm sure that will help the weekly scans but the manual scans still use very little resources.

Re: Virus scan not using much CPU.

I ended up just setting the scheduled scan for a minute after the time and it finished in about an hour. Still not sure why the manual is weary of my processing power but this solution works fine enough.  Thanks to everyone who tried to help!
