Rootkit?

I am scanning my computer and it is 99% complete but stuck on a file called Rootkit which I believe is malware. I've tried the free McAfee software which claims to remove it but it doesn't detect anything. Anyone know how to deal with this?

Re: Rootkit?

Moved this to VirusScan as it pertains to that.   The rootkit mention in  the interface can be confusing, it actually means that the scan has reached the stage where it is looking for rootkits.  Some people experience a glitch at that stage which causes it to hang.

See THIS FAQ for a fix.

By the way I just changed your log in name to andrew-garner to keep your email private.   You'll need to log out and back in again as that user name.
