No Internet Connection

I just installed McAfee Virus Scan Plus. However, I can not register or check for updates b/c it says "No Internet Connection" but I do have an internet connection. Plse advise.

Did you by any chance have Norton installed previously? If so run their removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Reboot and retry.

If another type of protection software see if they have a removal tool.

If it still doesn't work please provide exact details of your operating system, service pack, how you connect to the internet - router...name and model number?

Thanks Brit but unfortunately it did not work.

Yes I did have Norton. I uninstalled Norton using the Norton uninstall program before I installed McAfee. When clicking on the link you provided I receive the the error "The page cannot be displayed". Also, I am not too sure what version of Norton I had previously b/c I already uninstalled it.

I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 (EE944AV) notebook

My router is a Linksys Wireless-G2.4 GHz 802.11g with speed booster

Run that removal tool again just in case as it often does the trick.

If you are running Internet Explorer 7 go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click the Reset button. OK and exit, close and reopen IE7.
You will have to-enable all the browser add-ons.

If Internet Explorer 6 - go to Tools/Internet Options..
General tab: clear cookies, history and temporary files
Security tab: set all zones to default
Content tab: disable Content Advisor
Advanced tab: set to default. OK and exit.

(If you are running IE6 you should immediately upgrade to IE7).

Scan you machine for malware using the free version of this tool: http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html

If all that fails to help then try this tool:

run IEREGFIX - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...s/IERegFix.bat
and then IEFIX - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/utils/IEFix.zip

Try again.

If all that I suggested above fails can you try to connect with Technical Support Chat linked in my signature?

They may have tools that can connect with your computer and check why there is no connection in Security Center.

Virtual Tech

Virtual Tech is not working b/c it says I have to log on as Admistrator to install McAfee tech but I am on my Admin account? Plse advise

I think you have some spyware or worse on your machine because there is no way Internet Exxplorer wouldn't work properly if you had done all the things I listed earlier.

Try downloading Hijackthis and posting its log on one of the following forums for expert advice.

You have never answered me regarding what operating system and service pack this is and what version of Internet Explorer you are using.

Have you also tried to contact Technical Support?
