I've been having a problem lately where, though I have set it to only scan on Sundays at 4am every week, McAfee VirusScan just starts itself up all the time... as in once every few hours, by itself.
I really, really need this to stop happening. I had it start scanning a few minutes into turning on my computer at roughly 11am (Saturday). I shut it down, as I was playing Guild Wars for a bit. After shutting it down I had a flickering issue in GW (unrelated), so I started working on a design I have to do in Photoshop. At 1:23pm I noticed that I was having trouble using my scanner quickly... and sure enough, McAfee was scanning away again.
This is a BIG problem, as I am a 3d animation student and often have to leave my computers rendering in Maya. I'll come back expecting it to be done only to find out that a virus scan just decided to go ahead and open itself up, and my render has been slowed down.
Keep in mind that sometimes I'll have a render going that's going to take 20-30 hours. Now imagine that McAfee just starts itself up and gobbles up 10% of my resources every 2 or 3 hours. I'm no math wizard, but I'm smart enough to know that I'll lose a minimum of 3-5 hours of time on that. Since I have to render things like this at least once every other week, I'm losing time like mad.
I also have this happen all the time while I'm running games. I'll suddenly have some jumping and slowdown. I'll minimize to find McAfee scanning happily away, ruining my framerate in whatever I'm playing.
So... Any solution that you know of? I've been through and through the settings, and am sure (unless something is insanely hidden) that the ONLY time it should ever scan is 4am Sunday night.
Please run the McAfee Virtual technician and post the session id.
Again: Please provide these details
Operating system /service pack any other security application installed or removed ( if removed how?) system RAM. default browser and Internet explorer version ( even if its not default)
How would you describe this daily scan like? ( an icon at the right hand bottom corner close to the M icon which has an arrow like animation doing circular motion? or a icon that looks like a target cross hair ???)

I've rebooted the machine, but I don't have the time for a full scan. I have things to render this evening that need to be ready before I go to bed tonight.
Besides; it got to complete an unscheduled scan earlier this week - I'm pretty sure it was Friday. I was playing Killing Floor for a while with a friend. When I shut it off it was 90-odd percent complete, so I let it finish.
It gets to finish scanning when I'm rendering, after all... =(
