The McAfee Security Center scan stops everytime at 78%. It hangs and I can hear a faint "tink" sound repeating...I usually have to do a hard shutdown. The file it hangs on is: c:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386\sp2.cab.
My operating system is Windows XP home, 2002 service pack 3. My computer was built in 2001. I have no other security software.
The McAfee security center version is 9.15, virus scan version 13.15 and firewall version is 10.15.
Any help you can supply to resolve this issue would be great. Thank you.

Hi I moved your thread as you have a different version of VirusScan than the poster in the other thread.
That sounds to me like it's balking at reading beyond a disk error.
Assuming you don't as a rule compact your hard drives and/or use regustry cleaners that shouldn't otherwise happen except maybe if a file was totally corrupted.
Try the following:
Go to Start/Run and type in Cmd.
The Command Prompt window will open.
Type in chkdsk /r with the spaces as shown and click the Enter key.
It will object saying volume in use and to try at reboot Y/N, type Y and click Enter.
Reboot and let the utility check for disk errors. With the /r it will try to coirrect any dsk read errors it meets.
It takes some time to complete.
See if that helps.
Thank you so much for the excellent advise, it worked like a charm. Windows replaced the bad clusters and I was able to run a complete scan!
