RE: Is McAfee Artemis present in virus scan plus 2009

It comes with and is configurable on Security Center 9.3 (the latest 2009 version) but it can be installed as an extra on the following McAfee versions:

* 2008 McAfee® VirusScan Plus® / McAfee® Internet Security Suite / McAfee® Total Protection (SC v8.x)
* 2009 McAfee® VirusScan Plus® / McAfee® Internet Security / McAfee® Total Protection (SC v.9.0/9.1)

But it will NOT be configurable. The only way to turn it off is to uninstall it from Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs (XP), Programs/Uninstall a Program (Vista), where it will be listed separately.

See: http://us.mcafee.com/en-us/landingpa...protection.asp

To configure it on SC9.3, double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center
Click Advanced Menu (bottom left)
Click Configure (left)
Click Computer & Files (top left)
Click Advanced (right)
Select Active Protection (left)
You can turn it off at the right.

To check which version you have double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center and then click "About" at the lower right-hand corner.

Is SC 9.3 steadily being pushed to existing subscribers?

Yes, slowly but surely to McAfee direct subscribers. Varying delays with the 3rd party providers (Dell, MSN, AOL etc.).

Cool. Incidentally, I'm still waiting for my PFP upgrade on 2 of my 3-user VS+ machines. I guess, as we know, it sometimes takes a month or two for it to be pushed out across the whole worldwide distribution net.

Cheers,
Gopha.

Yes, it still isn't fully released here yet. They are letting it out to the servers in dribs and drabs. I guess in order to gauge the reaction.
If it's available there the quickest way to get it is the complete uninstall, MCPR, reinhstall route.

RE: Is McAfee Artemis present in virus scan plus 2009

Well if it all worked before I would do the following:

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".
2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)
3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.
4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.

Hi Peter,

Would you mind casting your expert eye into the following of mine please?: http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?p=555815#post555815

seems like the same things as before is happening - same symptoms as the time you'd reported that dodgy weekend update - any chance of determining if something similar is happening once again?

Cheers,
Goph.

I honestly don't know as you are the only one reporting this so far.
