How does active protection work?

I have a threat sample which does not get detected even i have the latest protection and connected to the internet..My McAfee is working fine and detection all other threats that comes in..however i have submitted the sample to avert labs through email and web immune..i have also got the confirmation saying that file is sent for human analysis..I had submitted to virus total online scanner service there it shows McAfee artemis detects it..so what does it mean??

It's already part of Security Center 9.3 but can be installed on SC9.0 or 8.0 here: http://us.mcafee.com/en-us/landingpages/activeprotection.asp

I had a similar situation and Artemis (I believe it was Artemis as the manual scan didn't detect it...) activated and detected the worm when I tried to run it... it seems that it's the way it works. I might be wrong though 😮
