How I can add extra.dat in VS 15.0?

Hi all.

Today I received extra.dat. I should post this file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Mcafee\Engine but I don`t have this folder.  So how  I can add extra.dat in VS 15.0?

Re: How I can add extra.dat in VS 15.0?

Wrong place.

According to the FAQ in the Technical Support library ...

First disable Access Protection

Copy the EXTRA.DAT into the same folder where avvclean.dat, avvnames.dat, and avvscan.dat are stored. For example:

C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\DAT\xxxx.x

(where xxxx.x is the DAT version number)

For 64-bit systems...

C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\VirusScan\DAT\xxxx.x

(where xxxx.x is the DAT version number)

    Restart your computer.

Re: How I can add extra.dat in VS 15.0?

Ok. Then pls forward this ifro to McAfee guys:

McAfee Labs Sample Analysis

Issue Number: 6661152

Identified: Generic.TRA

McAfee Labs, McAfee Labs

Thank you for submitting your suspicious files.

Synopsis -

Attached is a file for extra detection, which will be included in a future DAT set.

Solution -

EXTRA.DAT

The extra dat will detect the following files in the escalation.

Filename MD5 digest

-------- ----------

flash-player.exe 4339dfc5071257bf5545fd2e5cd8ddbb

The file should be copied into the directory where the other DAT files reside (with default installation, C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Engine).

Once you have copied the file, reboot the system for the driver to be loaded.

Support -

Malware Research accepts file-samples for analysis and possible inclusion into AV signature DAT sets.

Re: How I can add extra.dat in VS 15.0?

I will add that to the long list of  McAfee places that are almost hidden and need a lot of searching to find.    I've already complained that even the product page isn't that easy to find, from here at least.

By the way don't forget to re-enable Access Protection.

Thanks for letting me know that.  It's been a while since I disabled mine.   That's a good thing.
