Have Mcafee ignore folder or drive

I would like Mcafee to ignore certain drives or folders on my computer for real time and scheduled scans. How would I configure this.

Re: Have Mcafee ignore folder or drive

Hi blkskull,

Could you please let me know the version of McAfee security software installed on your computer which would help us to go further to resolve the issue. You can check the version by opening McAfee security center & click on "About".

Hi blkskull,

I am sorry for the delay in replying. You can change the scan settings on McAfee total protection,

>First open McAfee security & click on Virus and spyware protection  - click real time scanning on - then choose the settings as you wish.

I have been in that setting but I didn't see any settings to select which drives to scan and which to ignore.

It cannot be done with the home product yet, we have asked for that option to be reintroduced.  It was a feature about 6 or 7 years ago.

The only option would be to turn off automatic scans and do a custom manual one from time to time and that offers some selection options.

Re: Have Mcafee ignore folder or drive

So i'm curious to know if it is NOW possible.  I've been downloading torrents, and occasionally my utorrent gives me an error message that says access denied.  so obviously mcafee is snatching it up before i can download.  how can i get it to make exceptions?  or do i have to get another antivirus?  any help would be appreciated.  uttorent forums are stumped, and sent me here with my question.

Re: Have Mcafee ignore folder or drive

McAfee wouldn't deny access to anything unless your machine has Parental Controls and you are labelled as a child or other restricted category. If you have SiteAdvisor Plus it may give you a hard time going to a red-warning page if set to "Secure Search".  It would ask for permission otherwise, not simply refuse to do anything.

This thread is about ignoring files and folders during a scan using VirusScan and that isn't yet possible but we are hoping it will be in the 2011 products which aren't yet in beta testing.....and in case you ask the 2011-labelled products currently on sale are actually 2010 ones re-labelled.   It's a subscription that one purchases and that is good for all upgrades as long as it's current.
