Disable automatic update won't save

Jump to solution

McAfee Security Center 11.0

VirusScan 15.0 on Win7/64bit with UAC

When I go to Security Center/Updates/Settings when running as Administrator

I see the button to turn off auto update and the option to notify me when available.

I can change the option, but it won't save it.

I can click the turn off button, but it won't save it.

The auto update feature is out of control and degrades my performance. I need to manually control it.

How do I turn it off? Is there a registry hack that will work?

Run the latest version of Virtual Technician, it should fix it.  http://mvt.mcafee.com/

If not uninstall via Control Panel

Then run MCPR cleanup tool linked under Useful Links at the top of this page

Reboot and reinstall from your online account.
