ncdaemon.exe in Lotus Notes McAfee 8.8 (ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0)

Dear All,

How can i prevent ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0 to push the ncdaemon.exe down to my lotus notes? I have removed it manually

AddInMenus=NCMenu

EXTMGR_ADDINS=NCExtMgr

in notes.ini.

When ever there is an update in policy it will push the mcdaemon down to my notes again. Anyway to prevent that from happening?

Because the ncdaemon slow down the lotus notes.

Thanks & regards

Melvin Chan

Hi Melvin,

To prevent ncdaemon to be installed you could use MID (McAfee Installation Designer) and create a customize package unticking the option to install the email component.

The second way and the one I would recommend you would be the one that is described in https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB69030

Prevent installation via an ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) product deployment task

NOTE: In ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 4.x and later the Product Deployment Task has a Command Line field.

Component to be removed

String to type in the ePO Deployment Command Line field

Remove both
  • Outlook On Delivery Email Scanner
  • Notes On Delivery Email Scanner

ADDLOCAL=ALL REMOVE=EmailScan,LotusNotesScan

Outlook On Delivery Email ScannerADDLOCAL=ALL REMOVE=EmailScan
Notes On Delivery Email ScannerADDLOCAL=ALL REMOVE=LotusNotesScan

I hope this help you

Best regards,

Re: ncdaemon.exe in Lotus Notes McAfee 8.8 (ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0)

Dear Jose,

Thank you so much for  your kind assistant. When i added the Client Task Catalog. Will it automatic push down this comment or I have to deploy individually?

Thanks & regards

Hi Melvin,

When you create the task you need to assign the task to a machine or group of machines.

If you want to prevent the email component installation to all the machines, just assign the task (with the command line) under my organization and it will be assign to all the machines.

Dear Jose,

Pleaase refer to the screen shot. It seem that it is not working.

Question will i still have to edit the notes.ini?

Re: ncdaemon.exe in Lotus Notes McAfee 8.8 (ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0)

Hi Melvin,

This command that I have sent you is to prevent the installation and will not remove the component either the lines in Lotus Notes.

To remove the component in VSE console you should run this command in the machine:

msiexec.exe /i {CE15D1B6-19B6-4D4D-8F43-CF5D2C3356FF} REMOVE=EmailScan,LotusNotesScan /q

After that you should remove both of the lines in the lotus notes log.

Now try to deploy the VSE with the command in the command line and see if the component is installed or not

Re: ncdaemon.exe in Lotus Notes McAfee 8.8 (ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0)

Dear Jose,

Correct me I am wrong. So i have to run the command physically in every single machine to remove the email scan?

Alternatively i can use ePO to perform the task? Cos i have few hundreds of computer which is not located at the same site.

Look forward to your reply

Thanks & regards

Re: ncdaemon.exe in Lotus Notes McAfee 8.8 (ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0)

Hi Melvin,

You have 2 options:

1) Create a logon script with the command

2) Uninstall VSE from ePO in the clients and re-install with the task that we have created with the command line switch.
