I have recently created a Access Protection rule to check the processes accessing the .doc(MSword) files and found explorer.exe was access it.
Can any one know why will explorer.exe access .doc files.
I'm not sure I'm using the right terminology, but Explorer has various preview handlers that create thumbnails of each file. While Windows has built-in handlers for things like JPG, Adobe adds them for PDF, and Office adds them for its file types. My guess is that you'll want to remove/disable the appropriate handler.
So if you are reporting all accesses of .doc files, and a user opens a .doc file from a folder on the machine, that is EXPLORER.EXE accessing WORDFILE.DOC, with a READ action.
