Thanks. I found your message and it worked. Did not think to look in Common Files for the DATs.

You could pull the drive out, put it in another machine, copy the files to the correct locations, and then put it back.

Might be easier to swap in a working CD, though.

Bootable flash drive, but you don't want that.

Not much else to choose from, really.

Is it in a reboot loop, or is it getting to the desktop?

Thanks, D. It wasn't in a reboot loop, thankfully. Just no networking, no taskbar, and general brokenness of apps if I could get them to launch at all. Will ask the IT guys to replace the CD drive - never know when this will happen again!
