VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 Agent 4.1.0 Can't Install


My work PC has XP 32bit SP3, and it used to have installed: VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 3.0 and Agent 4.1.0

I uninstalled everything with the /forceuninstall command switch and the agent thru the Control Panel

I try to install the same products again, and the install runs and says it's copying the files, changing the registry, and it's progressing thru the install process, but at some point it says it's rolling back all changes, and end up saying no changes made to your computer or something like that, so I can't reinstall the antivirus and the agent

The only service I see remaining in the PC is the "Validation Trust Protection Service" andi see its file in system32 folder

I saw McAfee-related files remaining in these folders:


program files\common files\mcafee\systemCore\

Why does the install fails to complete? How can I get these 2 applications installed? Do I have to get rid of this service first?

Unless it's a typo there's never been a McAfee Agent 4.1.0

The current is the 4.8 range, but I wouldn't be using anything older than the 4.6 range.

Try to install patch 4. It was a security check in VSE 8.8 patch 2 and 3 which was checking for the expired certificates in your certificate store, and if you have one then will roll back.
