VirusScan 8.5.0i does not detect PUPs

I have latest DAT 5693 and latest engine 5301.4018.

I have a PUP that is detected by webimmune indicating that the 5692 is identifying the program as generic.pup.x, however whenever I do a 'Scan for threats', on the PC where I store viruses, it indicates that no threats found. All unwanted program categories are ticked in virusscan console, but no luck. 😞

I have seen on multiple installations and multiple sites. Is this normal? Has anybody else noticed the same.

I thought that the PUPs were successfully detected by McAfee successfully eventhough they were not viruses, but I don't see it working.

Any help will be useful, documents, pointers, tips, anything.

Regards,

Mitesh

RE: VirusScan 8.5.0i does not detect PUPs

I have to ask......is 'Detect unwanted programs' selected in your On Access policy and is the 'Other Potentially Unwanted Programs' category enabled in your 'Unwanted Programs' policy

PUPs not detected

Thank you for replying.

Yes, the 'Other Potentially Unwanted Programs' category enabled in your 'Unwanted Programs' policy along with all the other 7 categories.

RE: PUPs not detected

I believe the addition of the Anti Spyware plug in enables PUP detection.
