VSE no auto upgrading.

Hi,

I'm using EPO version 5.3.1, in software manager I have up to date  Virus Scan Enterprise for Windows version 8.8.0.1528, but in my System tree when I click on any client it shows VirusScan version 8.8.0.1445.

Even if I manually execute client task "POC - Deploy VirusScan Enterprise" where is configured to install VSE from current branch 8.8.0.1528 this taks run successfully but clients have still old 1445 VSE version.

I don't know how to troubleshooting this, my EPO agent upgraded successfully to version 5.0.2.333, and my DAT definitions are also auto upgraded without problems.

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

Hi ,

you cannot upgrade a VSE Installation with a deployment Task. You have to add the Patch into the repository and using a Update Task.

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

Hi,

sorry, this is the wrong package. To upgrade you need the patch file. The install file you posted will be used for a new Installation.

You need a package with type patch instead of install.

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

Hi,

just do one test. Right click on the McAfee Icon in the Task bar -> update security.

Please check if patch 7 is installed.

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

I don't have "update security" menu here, but only:

-on access statistics scan

-manual scan

-Virusscan Enterprise - information

but inside Virusscan Enterprise -information menu, here I have between many other information:

installed patch and number 7, so it should be installed.

But wait, today morning I see that some of my clients in System tree when I click on Products tab, now shows:

VirusScan Enterprise8.8.0.15288138.0000

something has started to change , but I don't know which of yesterday created policy do that change.

I have now to My Organization assigned Client task "POC - Content Update" so this is it, right ??

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

You probably need to enable it in your McAfee Agent policy - "Allow end user to update from the tray icon"

Alternatively you can run an Update Now from the Actions menu in ePO after selecting a system and updating All Packages and the system should receive the update.

If the product is not automatically updating, you need to look at your Product Update tasks in the Client Task Catalog and determine what you are telling the agent to update. Best practice is to do DAT and content updates every day, and product / patch updates weekly (or more frequent if requirements call for it).

Also, looking at your screenshots above, I'm going to advise that it is not best practice to have the same version of a product checked in to all three branches.

Current Branch is intended for the current version of the product (defined as n)

Previous Branch is intended for the previous version of the product (defined as n-1)

Evaluation Branch is intended for the next or test version of a product (defined as n+1)

You would then use unique McAfee Agent policies, tags, and policy assignment rules to assign systems to various branches based on organizational need or testing requirements.

Re: VSE no auto upgrading.

Hello everybody.

A hint from my side.

We had some Problems with the Agent 5.0.x and installing VSE Patch 7.

We could only install Patch 7 on Agent Version 4.8

Maybe this is also a Problem on your Environment.

As Tom said, there is no Need to check in the latest Version to all three branches.

But as i see on your screenshot you did not check in the "Patch 7" to the "current branch".

Kind regards
