VSE 8.0.0 don't update virus definition

Jump to solution

Hello,

I am using VSE 8.0.0 on two notebooks.

Everything was going well from a very, very long time ...

Today I just realized that on one computer the virus definition is from 25/03/2010 ... on the otherone it was from 30/03/2010 ..

I have tried to force the update ... everything seems to go well and the console reports at the end : "Update successful"

Looking in the Update report, I can read : "last update was successful"

But the "Viruscan About" says that the virus definition are in both cases outdated (5931 from 25/03 on one machine and 5936 from 30/03 on the other one)

I have downloaded 5946xdat.exe and when I launched it manually I got the message: "This package cannot update one or several McAfee products"

Then I tried sdat5946.exe and got exactly the same problem.

I have tried to reinstall VSE on one of the machines, I have installed 5911 from 5/03/2010 because I had it on my disc, no problem but still impossible to install 5946 ...

Both computers have version 5400 as engine and a patch version 16.

Has somebody an idea on this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

VSE 8.7i I would imagine is the obvious replacement.

Contact through the Support Portal for more advice is probably your best route.

I'm not an expert in Enterprise but VSE 8.0i has reached its end of life.

See this important thread:  http://community.mcafee.com/message/21892#21892

Thanks a lot ...

McAfee could be more explicite and the autoupdate should clearly state that the product is no more maintained ... instead to give the feeling that eveything is going well

I lost one day because of this kind of stupidity

What should I install now ? that is the question ...

Thanks again

Hi jlg47,

The inconvenience caused is regretted. However, multiple notifications were issued to inform the customers that the McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0 i would reach an End of Life as of 31/03/2010. Also, V1 DAT file format was discontinued on the said date.

Your replacement choice certainly is the McAfee Virus Scanb Enterprise 8.7i with patch 3.

I suggest you to upgrade ASAP.

Thank you

Sameer

If you have a support contract with Mcafee then you, or whoever provided you with the software in the first place, will have access to the download site to download the latest virus scan enterprise 8.7 patch 3 software. If you do not have a support contract then you are not entitled by law to be using the VSE 8.0 software in the first place.

The downloads are available via the download site https://secure.nai.com/apps/downloads/my_products/login.asp?region=uk&segment=enterprise assuming you have a valid grant number

Well thanks but I do have a grant number for support. But when I login the site says "

No downloads are available for this grant."

Does this mean that the grant number is based on some previledges?

Ive had this before with a valid grant where they hadnt attached my software correctly to the new grant number after renewal, in which case I just called the support for my country and quoting my grant got them to fix it.
