Unable to Uninstall VSE 8.8

Trying to remove VSE 8.8 from a server 2008 non R2 device.  The Removal tool is not supported on this OS for some reason.  Removing from either running the msiexec or Programs and Features gives the following error:  "The patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

Any way to remove it?

@thill

Seems like there are files missing as a result MISIEXEC not able to uninstall it properly. You can login to the safe mode and then get services and registries deleted manually. Then login back to normal mode and install the VSE back. For registry and services you can look at KB59996. Though it is mentioned for 8.7 but it will help.
Also you can contact the support team so that we can have a look at the machine and see if any alternate way to remove it.

Re: Unable to Uninstall VSE 8.8

so you are asking me to manually do what the EPR tool is supposed to do?  Why would McAfee remove support for older operating systems, when they are still be utilized in the world?  This is why we moved away from McAfee, their customer support is terrible, and their products were getting worse with every new release.

This isn't an acceptable solution.

so, you are asking me to manually do what the EPR tool is supposed to do?  Why not make the EPR tool run on older operating systems?  This is why we moved away from McAfee in the first place.  Their lack of support and their products getting worse with every release.  This isn't an acceptable solution by any means.

Re: Unable to Uninstall VSE 8.8

Hello @thill ,

EPR tool supposed to be used only if regular uninstall has failed. There could be n number of reasons why an existing setup is corrupt in specific machines. Kind of issues we have seen specific to 2008 server with EPR tool it is the specific environment which tends to break while using the tool and hence the removal of that OS from supported platform list.

image.pngMost of the environment runs with 2008 R2 at this point and we hardly heard concerns from enterprise customer on EPR support in 2008 server.

Regarding the issue you are facing in 2008 server, McAfee support team always there to help you. If you have a problem on specific ticket and it is in open then please feel free to IM me the SR number and we can see the best approach to resolve it.
