Testing commandline but EICAR.COM not working

Jump to solution

I am trying to test the Command Line for Windows Version 6.0.4 using the procedure form the manual.

I have made a EICAR.COM as specified in the manual by copying and pasting the long specified string.

The result is 79 bytes.

I have checked there are no spaces or return chars

When I use scan.exe to test the file it does not report any infections.

Here is what I am doing on the command line.

          scan.exe /SECURE EICAR.COM

Is there anything else I can check?

Should I be using different parameters?

Interestingly this file was picked up by my other virus scanner (ESET)

Hmm I have found the issue

Look at the difference between mine and yours:

Yours:

AV Engine version: 5600.1067 for Win32.

Dat set version: 1111 created Feb 2 2010

Scanning for 923 viruses, trojans and variants.

Mine:

AV Engine version: 5600.1067 for Win32.

Dat set version: 7487 created Jul 2 2014

Scanning for 670476 viruses, trojans and variants.

You are not using the latest DAT

Please, make sure you have your VSE with the latest DAT 7487 and then collect the files again

avvscan.dat

avvnames.dat

avvcleean.dat

and replace the one you have at the moment

Please, let me know

Morning,

Have you tried to download an Eicar test file from http://www.eicar.org/ and test it to make sure is not the file?

Cheers,

Still no luck

%errorlevel% is still 0 after the scan using the file downloaded from http://www.eicar.org/

This program is more than 52 months old. New viruses come out all the

time - we would suggest that you upgrade your copy.

Do I have to have VSE 8.8 installed as well?

I have not currently got it installed.

You do not need VSE to be installed in the box.

Can you test this switch?

SCAN /LOAD

Eicar.txt C:\

where your eicar is called Eicar.txt and it is placed in C:\ drive

Please try only with single extension first as I see you testing double extensions.

scanning single extension reports the file as clean

using /LOAD reports:

No file or directory found matching C:\tmp\X5O!P%@AP[4

Have you load the latest DAT? I mean the 3 files

avvscan.dat

avvnames.dat

avvcleean.dat
