Tenable versus VSE 8.8 patch 14 hotfix 116778

Hello,

in our company I have deployed VSE 8.8 hotfix 116778 to all windows PROD servers. By McAfee release notes (https://docs.mcafee.com/bundle/virusscan-enterprise-v8-8-14-hotfix116778-release-notes/raw/resource/...) is possible to install this hotfix only on version VSE 8.8.0.2190. After hotfix installation is possible to see in ePO in VSE details that Hotfix/Patch Version = 14 and Fixes = 116778. This is OK. Release notes also speaks about new build version 8.8.0.2224.2 but ePO still shows only version 8.8.0.2190. And there is a problem - when we have used Tenable to scan vulnerabilities Tenable showed us this:

File: C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\coptcpl.dll

Installed version: 8.8.0.2190

Fixed version: 8.8.0.2224.2

So we did not pass!!!

On McAfee web in Product downloads section is there for download only mentioned hotfix 116778. Whole VSE version 8.8.0.2224.2 is NOT there.

Is there some solution?

Thanks.

Hello @aabbaabb

Thanks for your post.

I tried checking the Product Download Site and below is the Hotfix available.

Please check the Screenshot:

VSEC.PNG

But again this Hotfix should used with :

This release was developed for use with:
• McAfee® VirusScan Enterprise® 8.8 Patch 14(build 2190)

Requirements
Make sure that your system meets these requirements before installing the software.
• VirusScan Enterprise® 8.8 Patch 14 (build 2190) should be installed.

So i believe you can not install only this Hotfix on a machine.

Post successful installation it should show up the HF build. To verify you can refer the below registry location.
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432Node\McAfee\DesktopProtection

If yous till see the issue and it is not reporting to the ePO, In that case it should be the issue with the property collection or something else and i would highly recommend you to open a Service Request (If not) to get the update.

Re: Tenable versus VSE 8.8 patch 14 hotfix 116778

I have this exact same problem.   I've updated the machines on my network to this:
• VirusScan Enterprise® 8.8 Patch 14 (build 2190)

Verified that build 2190 is installed by checking this registry key:HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432Node\McAfee\DesktopProtection

After installing hotfix 116778, version still shows 2190, not 2224.2

We've rebooted machines too, no change.

What gives here?   We are using Windows 10 build 1803, VSE 8.8

Thanks,

Re: Tenable versus VSE 8.8 patch 14 hotfix 116778

You dont understand me - hotfix 116778 for download is OK, installation works, registry key is also OK. But release notes mentioned that new = hotfixed VSE version is 8.8.0.2224.2 but after hotfix installation is in ePO still version 8.8.0.2190 (with hotfix). And when we do vulnerability scan via Tenable, after scan this tool inform us that we dont pass scan!!! because we have still installed not fixed VSE version = 2190 and hotfixed is 2224.2. Hotfix installer doesnt change VSE version to 2224.2 - this is bug/mistake/intention? on McAfee side. Why McAfee didnt release new full version of VSE 8.8.0.2224.2 (with included hotfix) which is downloadable via ePO?

PS: see John-Fees answer, he has same problem
