Release Notes for McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i - HotFix 464768
FYI, McAfee has released a hotfix to address the issues below. This hotfix requires that you install Patch 1 first.
Release Notes for McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i
HotFix Release: 5-19-2009 This release was developed for use with: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 1
Make sure you have the correct version of the product(s) in this list before using this release.
This release is based on McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 1 and includes all of the issues resolved in that release. This Hotfix extends McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 1 to address the issues described under Resolved issues.
Resolved issues in this release of the software are described below:
1. Issue: In an attempt to produce less overhead for some process-heavy tasks, some customers were disabling Access Protection and Buffer Overflow. The drivers remained loaded but not active, causing little change in performance. (Reference: 465506)
Resolution: Disabling the Access Protection and Buffer Overflow drivers now yields the expected performance increase.
2. Issue: The on-access scanner did not properly time out when scanning large archives. This could lead to the Filename Version
Resolution: The on-access scanner service now successfully times out at the length specified in the user interface.
3. Issue: When the on-delivery Outlook scanner received emails to scan, some keyboard entry could be lost.
Resolution: The Outlook scanner now handles the on-delivery scan of an email on Microsoft Outlook, and caches the keys entered during that time.
4. Issue: On 32-bit systems, the Access Protection rule "Prevent termination of McAfee processes" was being improperly disabled, even when the managed policy specified otherwise. (Reference: 481687) Resolution: The HotFix installer resolves this issue by removing the rule file that should have only been installed on 64-bit systems.
NOTE: This issue has also been resolved in fully released Patch 1 installer. The HotFix resolves the issue for customers who installed Patch 1 during the managed release cycle.
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 1 NOTE: The VirusScan 8.7i Patch 1 must be installed in your ePolicy Orchestrator repository and deployed to the system prior to installing the HotFix.
These fixes are nice, but I really have my thoughts in installing them in this way. There is nowehere visible on the client that this fix is indeed installed. Nothing in the Console, nothing in add/remove program. Why oh why McAfee don't you create a Windows Installer patch (.msp) of these hotfixes???
This makes it unmanageable and if we want to use it, we have to create a MSP ourselfs.
I was trying to locate this hotfix and couldn't find a way to download it. Checking another thread, it was mentioned that the hotfix is inside the zip file for VSE 8.7i Patch 1. I checked the zip file and indeed it is included as a seperate zip file.
