For VirusScan 8.X (ex. 8.7.0.570), under what exact circumstances do you get the yellow exclamation point over the M icon? I'm sure it's documented somewhere.

It may also be a result of that.
Please check what is the DAT creation date. Generally, a 7 days old to 15 days old DAT would be considered outdated. I suggest you run a manual update and see if it gets you the desired result.

The yellow mark signifies teh following :-
1} One of the components of the VSE is not working properly or is disabled.
2} A new Access Protection alert log entry has been generated.
All in all, some action from your end is required. Please right click on it and see if you get any messsage.

Would it have anything to do with the virus definition files being out of date? If so, what is considered being out of date (# days = X, # updates old = X, etc.)?
