On Access Scan Overhead

Hi guys, I have OAS generally enabled on most servers with appropriate exclusions. We have been doing some Oracle DB performance bench-marking and the results were poor. Naturally I disabled OAS on the server but times did not really improved. I removed the VSE components completely and rebooted and now I/O access times have much improved. I'm trying to understand why this might be. I had added oracle.exe as a low risk process and a policy to not scan reads/writes for low risk processes and this was in affect. I assume that removing the VSE completely removes the filter driver from the I/O stack completely also. Even with OAS disabled I assume that the I/O must traverse the filter driver but the driver simply doesn't act upon it?
