NetShield 4.63 on NetWare - fails to update DAT files
We've had this problem for years and McAfee's never been much help.
Maybe someone else out there has the same problem and can assist?
Running NetShield 4.63e on NW 6.5 SP5
After a while, the auto-update task just fails to update. The only thing in the log file shows:
Monday July 16, 2007 04:33 pm AutoUpdate Try Active FTP to ftp.nai.com Monday July 16, 2007 04:33 pm AutoUpdate doFTP Failed to connect to ftp.nai.com Monday July 16, 2007 04:33 pm AutoUpdate FTP communication error in obtaining file.
I can ping the FTP.NAI.COM just fine.
I loaded pktscan.nlm and discovered that when I do a manual "run now" on the task and it claims it cannot talk to the FTP server, that it NEVER ACTUALLY sends out ANY IP communication to the ftp.nai.com at all.
If I ping it, I see that data is going out to 188.8.131.52 But that's it. NO OTHER traffic to that site or any other "external" sites.
This would seem to confirm that NetShield is getting something "stuck" in memory or something and thus failing.
The only "fix" we've found is that we have to F10 to exit NetShield, wait a few seconds and then reload it and then the updates will work again for some random period of time.
There were issues with DATs updating at the same time as engines too for netshield (ie It didnt update is they were both echeduled at same time) sure you can dig what you need out of the knowledgebase if this was more like the case.
RE: NetShield 4.63 on NetWare - fails to update DAT files
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it doesn't apply to us, as it works for some period of time (so NETDB is loaded properly). It's just some "random" period of time later, that it stops working (ie, no server reboot in between or anything).
Unfortunately McAfee uses Akamai so if we use a specific IP address it may magically stop working or that IP may not have gotten the updates in time.
