McAfee slowing down database index jobs

We're running ePO 4.0, and the server I'm troubleshooting is running Windows 2003 R2 SP2 with VirusScan 8.5.0i Patch 8.

We have an application that uses a proprietary database. Every night, there are processes which run that read through the database files and several hundred thousand document files. We have added the actual process .exes for the database index to the On-Access Low-Risk Processes Policies, but when I use a process monitoring tool to look at what Virus Scan is doing as the index runs, it shows that as the index process opens and closes files, VirusScan is opening and closing the file.

I have now taken the step of creating an exclusion for the folder where the files are located and its subfolders. I'm open to other suggestions. We've had four phone calls to McAfee's support center, and after four separate tweaks to the settings, we're still searching for a solution. I'm hoping the community can help.

RE: McAfee slowing down database index jobs

I'd suggest having a look at the "best practices" thread...

As a generic rule, you should define exclusions for database files, indedx files and so on...

good luck
