McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 Patch 4' could not be installed. Error code 1603.

We've been getting this error since July 2014 on one of our 2008R2 Servers, it wasn't discovered until now, as it is an isolated system with only 3 users on it.

Here's the log - any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 Patch 4' could not be installed. Error code 1603.

The only thing I really see in the logs is below:

DEBUG: Error 2749:  Transform Patch2ToPatch4 invalid for package C:\Windows\Installer\1a720db5.msi. Expected product version == 8.8.02004, found product version 8.8.04001.

What version of VSE is the server currently at? 8.8.0.xxxx

I would try uninstalling VSE from a client task, see if that works, then install, and try update again.

After that, I would try installing manually. Make sure you disable HIPS/OAS and see what happens.
