Is it possible to exclude a registry key ???

Hi All

Please could someone advise if it is possible to exclude a registry key from being scanned?

If so please advise how.

Its not possible because  the exclusion feature only can exclude files and folders.

Why you need to exclude Reg Key?

Processes can also be excluded but registry keys cannot.

Then why does it scan the registry and remove changes made by a program?

For example with GOTOMYPC What is happening is when the scans are done on the computer the anti-virus is seeing a change to the registry and removing it.

There has to be something to exclude this.

It is not possible to exclude specific keys, however, it is possible to disable specific features.

It all depends on which protection feature is triggered.

Under VirusScan Console, Unwanted Programs Policy, has the item Remote Administration Tools been disabled?

Yes, it is possible to exclude registry keys and values. This is done in the Access Protection policy as a User-defined Rule.

While it is true that you can define rules for registry keys and values in the User defined rules, the rules are to block 'Write, Create, or Delete' of keys and values. This can be defined for blocking certain processes from making changes, adding, or deleting these keys and values. By default, no rules for the registry are defined so no specific process is blocked.

This feature would be useful in blocking certain software setup routines from creating specific startup run keys and values, say.

Darren Ford's original request was to: "exclude a registry key from being scanned" and I read that as 'Read a registry key.' I believe the intent is to stop VSE (and all of it's processes) from 'scanning' (or reading) the registry key. 'Reading' exclusions are not available from the User Defined Rules.

I would like to have VSE exclude reading of User Defined Registry keys and values feature added. This would be a major performance improvement for some trusted applications which excessively access certain registry keys, resulting in a major bottleneck when the OAS is active (as it should be).

Msld, if you can show us how to do this without this Feature Request, I would really like to know how.
