I'm experiencing the same issue. I can access the console from the start menu, but not from the tray. I attempted the resolution above, but after a reboot experienced the same issue. The resolution above doesn't seem like it would do anything...

Try this:

  1. Uninstall McAfee completely.
  2. Download PsTools.zip from www.microsoft.com/sysinternals. (We need this for psexec.exe)
  3. Extract the contents of PsTools.zip.
  4. Open a Command Prompt as the SYSTEM account (On the computer, run psexec.exe -is cmd.exe)
  5. Change to the McAfee installation directory and run the installation via this Command Prompt.
    (This will install McAfee as the SYSTEM account and not a user that has the potential to run McTray.exe.)

Let us know the outcome.
