True Key Lack of Notification of FREE to PAY Status: Loss of Login & Passwords

Jump to solution

We have been McAfee customers since right after McAfee was provided!  What really POed me is that there was no notification that the former "Free" True Key was going to become "Pay" True Key (when the free 15 were used)! So, to my surprise on Monday, I was left with only UPS and USPS True Key items and the remaining ones HAD DISAPPEARED!  Since I had more than 15 prior to this change, having not been notified that ALL OF MY PRIOR 22 were no longer FREE and would be removed, by the grace of my computer savvy, I had stashed all of my passwords in Password Safe and was able to recover the remainder of my passwords and 20 True Key items by re-entering them after paying the now applicable $19.99.  Over two days, trying to recall, or find, the log-in information for my missing 22 items was a pain.  Had I been informed that the payment of a $19.99 fee would save me all this trouble, I would surely have paid it before McAfee destroyed my "Free" True Key data that previously had been on my desktop, the wife's desktop, and our two laptops.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I understand that the notice you reference was posted AFTER the original "roll-out" of True Key, during which time when no mention was made of the limitation and subscribers to McAfee were "permitted" to "initiate" as many as they needed, without limitation, until, without further notice, the additional subscription method was put in place.  I imagine not everyone accessed the "home page" to see the new requirement.  I went along with 22 items for months, having trusted McAfee with my logins and passwords, until they were suddenly removed. Due to long-time computer savvy, had I saved most of my passwords in "Password Safe" and just had to locate the "log-ins" for these 22 items.

Hi @scmbjohnp

We are truly sorry for the trouble you had to go through.

But please visit https://www.truekey.com/#pricing, were we have indicated that "Every True Key account comes with the full feature set, syncs across all your devices, and lets you store 15 passwords or “Logins” for free. And if you need to store more logins, you need to purchase a premium subscription.

We again apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please let us know if you have any other concerns
