Virus renamed all my files with prefix "locked" and encrypted them. Help!

A virus renamed all my files (Word, jpeg etc) with the prefex "locked" and encrypted them. I think I have got rid of the virus but I cannot open any of the files - they are just a jumble now.

Apparently there are a few decrypters which can sort everything  - one at Dr Web for example - but these rely on having the original file.

I don't really understand this, as if I had the original file surey there wouldn't be a problem!

Sorry if I'm being very thick but is there no way I can get these files back if I don't have copies?
