Unable to resolve zero access

My computer is protected by the paid McAfee "Total Protection" subscription software service.  Even though, I got a zero access virus which McAfee couldn't get rid of.  Called them to correct the problem and they said I'd need to pay $90 to have them eliminate the virus.  "But I'm already paying you to protect my computer".

There's no way I'm paying someone more money to fix what they should've taken care of the first time.

I think I need to change companies - any suggestions for virus protection? I don't mind paying as long as I'm really protected.
