Re: FBI MoneyPak Scam - Removing Virus

Jump to solution

Very unusual for a computer to reset itself back a few days without human intervention.  However to be sure you are OK read the section in the last link in my signature below about Hijackthis.   Run it and post it's log on one of the specialist forums mentioned there.

They will tell you if you have anything to worry about.

Meanwhile once you are sure you are OK turn System Restore off and back on again to erase the infected restore point.

Create a second account with all admin rights. When you get the virus again switch users to the new account. With the second account you can do a system restore, download a too such as malwarebytes to clean the virus or manually delete the virus. Works for me. The lates version of the virus did not let me boot into safe mode. Having the second account saved me. Only use the second account for recovery activities and nothing else so it will never get infected.

After the last time I got the virus and repaired my pc I checked the McAfee log and it detected the virus but it did not stop it. With stuff like this and mcshield.exe randomly using 25-70% of my quad core cpu I don't know how much longer I will say with McAfee

Interesting idea re the second user.  Re mcshield have you had support look at why this is happening quad core cpus should not have any mcshield issues.

If necessary have them escalate the issue to a higher level support tech.
