Do you mean "safe mode"? Yes.
And, as I wrote before, McAfee has been installed as the only av sw for many years.

The only uncommented line in my host file is 127.0.0.1

The forum admin also ask if you could do the following:

Start/Run and enter cmd then click Enter

Type in tracert download.mcafee.com and then Enter.

When it is finished right-click any area on the top bar of the cmd window and select edit then "select all" and then repeat to copy it back here.
