I'm not sure if this is the correct spot, but need help no matter from where I get it. I recently purchased McAfee Total Protection 2009 and have two problems. One, when I try to download it after the second "Run" window, another window comes up, but stays blank. After a couple of minutes or so an error msg pops up saying it can't connect to the internet, that I should ensure I am connected and try again. If I am connected to McAfee aren't I connected? Second, when I try for help I get a msg saying that in order to go further I have to allow cookies. I took the steps to allow cookies but for some reason it didn't take. Anyone have any ideas on either or both of these problems. Thanks.
RE: download McAfee Total Protection (new purchase)
What operating system and service pack is this? Also, importantly, what browser and version? If this is IE8 beta ditch it immediately and install the final version from Microsoft.
If it's either IE7 or IE8 go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click the Reset button, Apply and OK. Exit the browser and reopen it. Go to Tools/Manage Add-Ons and re-enable the add-ons. See if that helps.
Also make sure that add-ons such as Flash and Shockwave Players from Adobe are up to date and Java also.
The above applies whether you use IE or not, as McAfee relies on it.
W-e-e-l-l, it didn't work. I still cannot get any further in the download process than I was before. And same problem re: getting into the help section at McAfee. I'd appreciate any other ideas you might have.
OK, will give it a try. My browser in Road Runner from Time Warner Cable, and they have a free security suite (CA), but I have had so much trouble with them I went with McAfee. Will let you know what happens.
I am finally giving up. I have done what I can to enable cookies and no matter how hard I try I cannot get through to customer service in order to do what I need to cancel my subscription and request a refund. I am just going to let it run and not renew next year. I am going to look at another program and hopefully I won't have as much trouble as I have with these last two. Thanks for your help.
