Why am I getting update notifications 1-3 times a day?
I swear, every time I open my laptop... I get a notification from McAfee that there are updates available for VirusScan Plus. I will then update, only to get another notification hours later or the following day. Why is it not updating? This is frustrating to no end.
And I've read other threads here with similar problems, but they seem to have other issues involved... whereas mine is only an updating issue. Scans work fine, I have no viruses... my only problem is the annoyance of it seemingly not updating.
PLEASE HELP?? I'm at a breaking point, and I'm ready to ditch McAfee all together for another security program. Do I need to do the annoying task of using the cleanup tools and MCPR program?
If so, why? I haven't made any installs since, I haven't had any viruses... I practically only use this laptop for email and other work tasks (as I have 2 other computers for everything else). Why is McAfee so funked up right now?
Please help ASAP! I've been dealing with this annoyance for a few weeks now. Any guidance or advice you can provide would be much appreciated.
RE: Why am I getting update notifications 1-3 times a day?
It helps to know more info.
Please include the following information:
What is your operating system, service pack and are you up to date with Microsoft update?
What McAfee products do you have? If your taskbar icon is like this: - double-click to open SecurityCenter and then click "View Details" or "About" at the lower right of the new window. Post the details from each module.
There have been server issues today, but if that issue has been around for some time then it suggests that the installation is corrupted.
In that case I would do the following:
1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".
3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one! In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site not from any CD that you may have.
