White screen, yet again

This white screen problem seems to be very widespread, from google results. I've done everything in the McAfee list of 'fixes' and none of them work. For the record: brand new laptop, Windows 7, IE9, Java: all up to date. Why on earth can't McAfee simply suppply a working product? I shouldn't have to jump through hoops when I've paid money for something I could have got free from Microsoft. If I could remove McAfee I'd seriously consider doing just that and getting my money back.

I presume (though I don't actually KNOW) that the background protection is working, but I can't scan, and it worries me that I have no control.

Check the Blank Screen link in my signature below for a series of 5 solutions to the problem.

The first one usually fixes it instantly.

It's cause by something corrupting scripts and the fixes restore them.

Peter, I'm very pleased to report it worked this time!
I have run this before, when I first had the problem, but it didn't work then, for some reason. Well anyway, I am now a happy bunny once more, and a satisfied customer.
