Did you mean:

Warning Pop-Ups

but, I am at home.

I get balloons all day telling me "Your product is out of date" when it is not according to my purchase date. "Your Phishing filter is out of date" but I no longer have a phishing filter. "Your system is vulnerable" when it is just the phishing filter being out of date. "Your product needs to be registered/authenticated" but, when I try it takes me to a place which says "Authentication can not be completed at this time" or something similar to that. All of this from the current McAfee Virus Scan Plus 9.0

I believe this came up awhile ago but never got any real answer besides the indication to basically "grin and bare it". I asked if these things(balloon warnings) could be turned off since most are useless, but I was told no. Any new solutions?

I downloaded all the McAfee products to date, except the orginal preinstalled on the PC before purchase date.

RE: No

First enable Windows Firewall.

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MC... This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
Don't worry if you don't find any files.

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site, not from any CD that you may have.

If you are McAfee direct customer, go to and log in to download your McAfee products.

If you received your McAfee products from your service provider, please use the list below to download your software.

Comcast users should go to and log in to download your software.

DELL users should go to and log in to download your software.

Gateway users should go to and log in to download your software.

It seems to be working.

I used the tools you provided, Exbrit. I'm going to give it a few days since it took a few days for the problems to arise after I downloaded the new McAfee. I can see why it would have some problems with 2 programs being installed. Overwriting eachother. I thought when I downloaded the new program it had removed all of the old McAfee preinstalled product but I guess it didn't.
#2 in Exbrit's post removed alot after I had uninstalled all McAfee products(preinstalled/downloaded). I couldnt find the "View Tab" though.

RE: It seems to be working.

We were told that the 2009 products should remove older applications but in practise it doesn't always work that way.

Regarding the "View" tab, make sure you are doing this signed in as Administrator or a user with Admin rights.

There's also an article here about View tab missing:
