I recently uninstalled mcafee. When I did, my computer would no longer:
connect to a network
connect to the internet
open any application
run an uninstall since the program was already uninstalled
run the mcafee removal tool
All of this works perfectly in safe mode.
Right before I uninstalled the application, I ran a full scan and there were no viruses reported.
All I get is a tech from another country telling me I need to pay a fee to have this uninstalled.
Why would I pay to remove a product?
I want some help now.Message was edited by: iamamcafeehostage on 5/10/12 12:45:23 PM CDT
McAfee Technical Support doesn't charge for their services. Are you contacting them through the links under Useful Links at the top of this page?
It's free to phone or use the online chat and there is no charge for the service.
I'm not clear from what you said above - are you trying to reinstall McAfee or get rid of it to install something else?
Have you tried loading the MCPR Cleanup tool to an external flash drive, plugging it into the machine, transdferring it to the desktop and then running it from there in regular mode (more effective)?
(It's also linked under Useful Linkis at the top of the page).
I also would need to know what operating system and service pack you have installed.
Have you tried right-clicking the network icon by the clock and repairing it?Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 10/05/12 1:48:04 EDT PM
They may have suggested that you have a severe malware invasion and that they would recommend the paid virus removal department? That would explain the chargeable service. That's normal for any antivirus company.
If you can access the Internet in 'Safe Mode with Networking" try downloading Malwarebytes FREE from this link and update it and run it all in that mode.
Don't accept the free trial, just install it, update and run it.
I ran malwarebytes, and combofix both of which found nothing.
Perfectly working machine including complete scan before the uninstall and reboot, and after reboot, nothing works including connecting to a network, the internet, running an application such as the mcafee removal tool, control panel, services.msc, msconfig... OR the mcafee removal tool

Then I'm stumped, sorry. Support should be able to escalate this...for free, if you give them the previous ticket number. Tried System Restore to go back to way before any of this? That way hopefully McAfee would be removable normally and then you could simply update the system as needed.
Or if you give me the ticket number I can email my contacts and have them look up why it was suggested you pay and see what else they can offer you?
I have contacted them. They have remoted into the machine in safe mode. The MCPR application does not work in safe mode, and in normal mode it does not run. Nothing runs, including control panel, services.msc windows explorer, internet explorer... nothing.
I am running Vista 32 bit with service pack 2 installed and all of the current updates.
I wish to remove this from my computer.
I have worked on computer for a long time, and can usually figure out a way to uninstall this.
There must be something that is starting in normal mode that is not running in safe mode with networking, but when I speak to a tech or have them remote in, they tell me that they cannot help me, that this must be caused by a virus although right before I uninstalled the program, I did a full system scan and it reported no viruses.
I have wasted 6 hours on this, and I am completely in a world of crap because none of my applications will work, and I refuse to pay to uninstall a program
