Yes you need to update to SP3. You should always keep Windows totally up to date in all aspects, using Microsoft Updates and install both critical and non-critical updates, especially with XP which is the most insecure out of the currently supported operating systems.

Right now I am more concerned as to why you can't get McAfee installed and think it best that you contact Technical Support Chat, link at top left of the page. Ask them to escalate the issue if at first they can't help.
