I have total protection 2013 on Windows 7 service pk 1.I only get virus&spyware protection and web&email protection, the others don't display on the UI.Tried using update but it says an error occured when downloading updates.I can't uninstall it using the control panel because the Macfee ui doesn't display the required tabs to click on.I'm using IE 10 but it's the same using firefox. Thanks in advance for any help.
Do you have an installation of Google Toolbar or Google Desktop installed either as a program or IE add-on? If so please uninstall as they are obsolete and can cause this issue.
Otherwise check here: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-3000
Hi:Loading the MCPR solved the problem i was having.I also did all the other checks in your answer but still get the small ui which only shows about half the items on it.This is why i couldn't remove mcafee from the control panel because the remove tab on mcafee ui wasn't showing. The ui seems to be missing half the items and tabs on it.Reinstalling Mcafee didn't change the ui size.
So MCPR didn't really solve the problem, it just got rid of it. The issue shouldn't be happening in the first place. Did you check for those Google items I mentioned?
I think it's best that you check directly with Technical Support. It's free by phone or online chat and linked under Useful Links at the top of this page.
OK good luck. If those items are gone that's good as they are known causes of display issues. They're obsolete anyway so best left uninstalled. You could now try uninstalling McAfee if still installed via Control Panel > Programs then running the MCPR cleanup, reboot and try reinstalling.
But maybe best to go straight to Technical Support.
On oct 9 Windows did over 20 updates and that cured the Mcafee UI display. So was it a Windows or Mcafee problem?I quess we will never know but I'm just glad it's working properly again.
Well a bit of both because McAfee's interface is actually an Internet Explorer web page. But trying to figure out how it all works is beyond me I'm afraid.
You are lucky you only got 20 updates. I keep my systems up to date yet got 30 each for Vista and Windows 8.1 and no fewer than 50, yes 50 for Windows 7.
Mind you it all depends on whether or not you have the full Office suite and other factors I suppose.
