Total Protection 2009; Cannot Connect to Internet, Cannot Install Virtual Technician

I can connect to the internet without a problem via IE. McAfee will not, however. I cannot update or register my product. I cannot install the McAfee Virtual Technician... I eventually get the "Navigation to the web page was canceled" message. This is brutally frustrating.

I had Norton 360 and uninstalled it.

I've rebooted my machine several times. I have an Ethernet connection; hardwired with a Linksys wireless router. I'm having the same problem with a laptop connected wirelessly. I've never had this kind of problem installing new software. This is my 1st time using McAfee security software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hai,

You have to edit the host file inorder to add the McAfee host address on it.
This will resolve the issue for sure.
Please use the below link to edit the host file and check whether it works.

I don't know about the merits of what the previous poster stated, but I was thinking that you may have some leftovers of the Norton product. Usually, when you uninstall Norton software you should run the Norton/(Symantec ?) uninstaller tool(s), to prevent problems if you want to install new security software.

If you wish to uninstall McAfee the MCPR tool (plus instructions, see elsewhere on forum) should be used.

I would not want a computer with both Norton and McAfee installed ...
