It should be fine with Win 7 x64. Did you run any removal tools to get rid of previous A/V software first?
Run MCPR removal tool to get rid of McAfee remnants also.
Try running the McAfee Virtual Technician to see if it can pinpoint any issues: http://mvt.mcafee.com/
Try running the McAfee preinstall tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreinstall.exe
If that fails then I suggest contacting Technical Support Chat via Useful Links at the top of this page.

This computer is new and the only preinstalled (OEM bundled) A/V software is from Norton. Would this prebundled software have a bearing on this problem?
I did run Virtual Technician and then contacted Tech Support Chat. That Tech person indicated that MacAfee was working on updating Security Center forAOL users (I think).
I was given a case number for future fixes. I am still wondering why there was no version of this A/V for Windows 7 which is why I posted here to ask the question.
According to AOL's website the McAfee product they offer is compatible with x64 Win 7 and I know that it is because I had the same version installed here.
You would naturally have to remove all traces of Norton first. Uninstall it the normal way via Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program then run their removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039/
See if that helps.
