I continually start/enable realtime scanning and it will shortly turn itself off. I downloaded Virtual Tchnincian and it dies when trying to scan for the products. No idea what to try next. But in the services app the location for te MCSHIELD service is listed as:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\\mcshield.exe
Assume the double slash may be causing a problm? Cannot stop/start it -(status is running) The executable is in teh SystemCore folder.

What is the operating system of the computer ?
Do we have any third party security software in the computer (or in the past)
Did the computer have any malware infection in the past.

Since you had the previous version of McAfee programs installed in the computer . please run the mcafee removal tool from this link : here (this will remove all mcafee products from the computer ) and restart the computer
Reinstall your programs from your account page here: http://us.mcafee.com/root/login.asp
Please let me know if you face any more issues after reinstalling
