I have purchased Internet Security 2010 and got it on a cd from amazon.
I uninstalled the previous version of Mcafee i had on my pc from Control Panel. Then I had run the mcpr.exe as well - also removed folders named mcafee from Program Files & user/application data. After reboot, I am trying to install from the cd. The programs are getting downloaded but as soon as the installation starts for Security Center component, it fails after 2-3 mins- I have got red cross marks appearing against all the components and says Either run install once again or run the Virtual Tech Support tool.
I have run the Virtual Tech support and the log file it created is pasted below. Can you please advise me what is going wrong? I have tried installing from the cd also instead of downloading but still facing the same issue. The entire process has been repeated 5-6 times.
Any help will be much appreciated.
That shouldn't be happening unless you have malware present or rival software, but normally you would have other clues regarding either of those.
In IE8 go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced
Click Reset, OK any prompts and click Apply & OK
Close and reopen IE8
Go to Tools/Manage Add-Ons
Re-enable all the add-ons
Reboot and try again.
Hi, I followed your advise but I am facing the same problem. I get the same Red X and the Virtual Technician gives the same error message.
Please let me know if there is any other way.
This IS XP SP3 x86 (32-bit) I hope?
Run the free version of these two tools to make sure you are infection free. Update before using and let them clean anything they find. Reboot if asked
Please try running mcpreinstall below...
Then save the DMSETUP file to your desktop first, then try running it.
Can you remember using a third party application (another type of antivirus software or firewall software)? if you have used one... what was the name?
Hi, followed your steps but still facing the same issue. Mine is 32 bit Windows only. And I have never used anything other than Mcafee since the time I bought my pc. Now I have the anti-spyware and anti-malware free versions that you have suggested below.
Please advise since I am at my wit's end trying to make this work.
I can only suggest Technical Support Chat at this stage. At least they can access your machine to check what is wrong and can escalate the issue if necessary.
Change Country if you wish at the top right.
Just an update: I got in touch with McAfee technical support - they escalated me to Level2 support. Tech support diagnosed the problem as the security settings for my windows which was preventing the installation from going ahead. So they restored the security back to the default level for Windows XP using microsoft provided tool. Once that was done, the installation went ahead without any problems. It is working fine now and my problem is resolved.
