On Saturday I received an update to my McAfee security software that loaded a newer version of the program (moving from the M symbol to the shield symbol). I was told to restart; in the middle of the restart my computer locked up. I restored to an earlier point and the new software downloaded again. I installed the technician tool and it found and replaced one corrupt file, but the computer locked up again. I tried running the technician tool again in safe mode but it was no longer on my computer. I tried turning of Microsoft Defender, but the computer locked up. The computer runs in safe mode.
Anything I can do short of uninstalling McAfee and burning the last year of my subscription?on 10/08/10 11:59:35 AM
Looks like some corruption may have occurred and can be remedied by uninstalling via Add/Remove programs and rebooting. This link will help you with the installationhttp://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507

I had the exact problem. The solution I found that worked is this:
Don't worry your subscriptions will still stand.
Hope this helps
Thanks for all the input. I will likely try tonight. Last night I backed up photos and video with my network off and the system restored to an ealrier point.
This is a Dell machine with Vista, Sp2.
I need to fingure out if I have an account page as a backup. The sustem lists that i have a subscription through August 2011. But ultimately, i just want my computer back.
